Anthonotha macrophylla is a shrub or small tree found in the rainforests of West Africa. It is part of the Fabaceae family and is the most common species within the Anthonotha genus in Africa. The plant can grow up to 20 meters tall with a diameter of 60 cm. Its branches are greyish to pale-brown in color and its leaves are arranged in pairs with 2-4 leaflets per pinnae. The inflorescence is a loose raceme panicle and the fruit is an elliptical to oblong pod. This plant is used for various purposes, such as its seeds in food preparations, its stem bark for medicinal purposes, and its stems as staking materials for yams. It is found in the forest environments of West Africa and is used by local communities for its various benefits.
