Symplocos odoratissima is a fragrant tree found in Southeast Asia, belonging to the Symplocaceae family. It can grow up to 28 meters tall with a diameter of 50 cm. The bark can be either scaly or smooth and its leaves are papery and obovate to elliptic in shape. The flowers are yellowish-white and the fruits are pear-shaped, turning blue when ripe and measuring up to 2.5 cm. This tree is native to maritime Southeast Asia and can be found in dipterocarp forests, particularly in swampy areas near rivers. The bark of Symplocos odoratissima is used as a dye and in traditional medicine in Java. There are two recognized varieties of this tree, one found in the Nicobar Islands to the Philippines and the other in Borneo and the Philippines.
