Symplocos anomala is a plant belonging to the Symplocaceae family. It can grow as a shrub or tree up to 30 meters tall and has a trunk diameter of up to 50 centimeters. The bark is typically grey or brown and its flowers have a white corolla. The fruit of this plant is purple to black when ripe. It is found in Japan, China, Taiwan, Myanmar, Thailand, Borneo, and Sumatra, and is commonly found in montane forests at altitudes ranging from 900 to 2,000 meters.
