Series Styrax ser. Valvatae in Section Styrax sect. Valvatae
In botanical taxonomy, a series is an infraspecific genus-group rank used to organize closely related species within a subsection or section. In the hierarchy, series typically sits below subsection (or section, where subsections aren’t used) and above species.
Series group species that share distinctive morphological or genetic features and are more closely related to one another than to species placed in other series of the same subsection or section.
When finer resolution is needed, series may be subdivided into subseries. Not all families or genera use the rank consistently, but where applied it helps clarify relationships within large, diverse genera.
