Pouteria viridis, also known as green sapote, is a flowering plant in the Sapotaceae family. It is native to Mexico and Central America and can be found in tropical forests at higher altitudes. This tree can grow up to 40 meters tall and has deciduous or evergreen leaves. Its fruit is edible and has a sweet and juicy flesh that can be eaten raw or used in various dishes. The seeds are also edible and can be roasted. The plant has traditional medicinal uses, such as preventing hair loss and treating skin conditions. Its bark also has antitermite properties. The wood of this tree is strong and has been used for construction and making furniture and tools. Pouteria viridis is often planted for reforestation and erosion control. It can be grown from seeds or propagated through grafting. While there is a small commercial trade for this plant, it is more commonly found in home gardens or small farms.
