Primula vialii, also known as Vial's primrose, is a flowering plant that is native to the wet meadows and high valleys of southern China. It grows up to 40 cm tall and has erect stalks of flowers that emerge from a basal rosette of leaves. The flowers start off as green spikes and gradually turn red before opening into a striking pink color from the base upwards. The species name, vialii, is in honor of Paul Vial, while a white flowered cultivar called 'Alison Holland' was discovered by an amateur gardener named John Holland in northern England. This plant is popularly grown as a garden ornamental and has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
