Myrsine lessertiana, also known as kōlea lau nui, is a type of colicwood that is found only in Hawaiʻi. It can be found in various types of forests at elevations ranging from 210 to 1,220 meters. This tree can grow up to 18 meters tall and has a trunk diameter of 0.3 to 0.6 meters. In the past, Native Hawaiians used the wood of kōlea lau nui to make various objects such as scrapers, anvils, and canoes. The bark of this tree was also used to make a red dye. Additionally, its leaves were believed to have spiritual properties and were used for visions and revelation. When smoked, the leaves can produce a euphoric effect similar to LSD.
