Lysimachia asperulifolia, also known as rough-leaved loosestrife, is a rare flowering plant found in the Atlantic coastal plain of North and South Carolina. It is a federally listed endangered species with only 64 known populations. The plant grows up to 70 centimeters tall and has yellow star-shaped flowers with red glands. It thrives in open areas between longleaf pine uplands and pond pine pocosins, but its habitat is threatened by development, improper management, and military operations. The plant reproduces vegetatively and can appear to have a large population, but it is actually made up of few genetic individuals. Efforts have been made to preserve its habitat through prescribed fire, but more conservation efforts are needed to protect this rare species.
