Embelia rowlandii is a shrub in the Primulaceae family, with a greyish bark covered in fine hairs and pale lenticels when young. Its leaves are obovate to elliptic and can grow up to 13 cm long and 7 cm wide. The plant produces whitish to creamy yellow flowers in axillary racemes. It is found in Tropical West Africa, specifically from Senegal to Nigeria and eastwards to the Central African Republic, typically growing along streams in savannahs.
