Phlox maculata, also known as wild sweetwilliam or meadow phlox, is a perennial flowering plant in the Polemoniaceae family. It is native to the eastern United States and has been introduced to eastern Canada. This plant can grow up to 2-3 feet tall and produces clusters of fragrant, deep pink flowers in the summer. Its stems are stiff and have red spots, which is reflected in its Latin name, maculata. This plant thrives in damp, well-drained soil and prefers full sun. It is also less susceptible to powdery mildew compared to its relative, Phlox paniculata. Some cultivars of Phlox maculata have received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
