Phlox buckleyi, also known as swordleaf phlox or shale-barren phlox, is a plant species found in Virginia and West Virginia. It grows in open woodlands, particularly on hills made of shale. This plant was first discovered in 1838, but was not officially classified as a species until 1930. Phlox buckleyi is a perennial herb that spreads through stolons, which are above-ground runners. It has long, narrow, evergreen leaves that form rosettes at the end of the stolons. The plant can grow up to 40 cm tall and produces bright purple flowers with darker purple centers.
