Linanthus pungens, also known as granite prickly-phlox or granite gilia, is a flowering plant found in western North America. It can grow as a shrub or a perennial herb and produces erect or spreading stems. The plant is typically found at higher elevations and can reach up to 80 centimetres in height. Its stems are covered in sharp-pointed leaves and it produces solitary or clustered funnel-shaped flowers in various colors. These flowers open at night and are pollinated by moths. Linanthus pungens is known for its aromatic flowers and herbage. It can be found in a variety of habitats, including pine forests, woodlands, and grasslands, and is tolerant of harsh conditions such as cold winters and hot summers. It is commonly found in dry climates and can grow in poor, rocky, and sandy soils. This plant is a dominant species in certain areas, such as the white pine-mountain hemlock forests in California and sagebrush in Idaho.
