Cariniana legalis, also known as jequitibá-branco or jequitibá-rosa, is a large rainforest tree found in the Atlantic forest of Brazil, and possibly in Colombia and Venezuela. These trees can reach impressive sizes, with one measured at 62 feet in circumference by botanist David Fairchild. Some of the oldest trees in the Atlantic Forest, estimated to be over 3,000 years old, can be found in Santa Rita do Passa Quatro and near Petrópolis. Unfortunately, this species is facing threats due to habitat loss.
