Barringtonia edulis is a tree species found in the southwestern Pacific region, specifically in Fiji and Vanuatu. It is also known by various names such as cut nut, pao nut, boxfruit tree, heart tree, and yum-yum tree. The tree can reach up to 18 meters in height and has smooth greyish-brown bark. Its leaves are large, glossy, and clustered at the ends of branches. The tree produces hanging racemes of small tubular flowers and oblong berries with persistent calyces. It is endemic to Fiji and Vanuatu and is commonly found in humid forests near the coast. The tree is pollinated by moths and bats and serves as a host for several species of fruit flies. Its fruits and seeds are edible, with the seeds having a similar taste to peanuts. The bark is used in traditional medicine, while the wood is used for construction and firewood.
