Rhododendron indicum, also known as Azalea Rhododendron, is a species of rhododendron native to Japan. It can be found in the southern and western regions of Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Yakushima. This plant is classified as the type species for the Tsutsusi section and subsection, and was first described by Engelbert Kaempfer in 1712 under the Japanese name Kirishima-tsutsuji. There are numerous cultivars of this species, with the Satsuki azaleas being among the most popular.
