Kalmia polifolia, also known as bog laurel, is a perennial evergreen shrub found in cold acidic bogs in North America. It was named after botanist Pehr Kalm and its species name, polifolia, means "pole-leaves" in Latin. The plant was first described by a German botanist and is commonly found in Eastern American states and Canadian provinces. It has pink or purple flowers and can grow up to two feet tall. While it has been used for medicinal purposes, it is highly toxic and can cause poisoning in animals and humans. Caribou often eat this plant as part of their diet and it has been planted in gardens for its aesthetic value.

Germination/Propagation Top
Suggest a correction or add new data!Sow seeds at 20°C, expecting germination within 3 months without further temperature treatment. |
Requires Light or Surface Sowing: These seeds need light to germinate and should not be covered with soil or only very lightly. They are often very small and sown directly on the surface of the growing medium. |
