Erica jasminiflora, also known as the jasmine heath, is a rare species of Erica that is native to South Africa. It is a small shrub with thin branches and inflorescences that contain three or four tubular shaped flowers. These flowers have a star-like appearance and are sticky in texture, ranging in color from white to pale pink with darker pink veins. The leaves of the jasmine heath are flat and reduced, growing close to the branches. The main pollinators of this plant are flies, while other insects are deterred by a sticky layer on the outside of the flower. The jasmine heath blooms from November to March and is able to recover from wildfires. However, the biggest threat to its population is agricultural practices, which have greatly reduced the number of plants to only around 100 in a small area in the Swartberg region.
