Dracophyllum elegantissimum, also known as grass tree or slender dragon tree, is a flowering plant found in the north of the South Island in New Zealand. It grows up to 14 meters tall and has a candelabra-shaped crown with light green, leathery leaves. The plant produces 600-1000 flowers on a pyramid-shaped inflorescence and fruits from February to March. It is similar to D. traversii but can be distinguished by its long, thin leaves and smaller nectary scales and ovaries. D. elegantissimum is endemic to New Zealand and is found in lowland to upper montane forests on south-west to north-west facing slopes. It was first described in 2004 and was previously mistaken for D. traversii. The name Dracophyllum comes from its resemblance to the dragon tree and the specific epithet elegantissimum refers to its graceful canopy and long, narrow leaves.
