Dracophyllum acerosum is a shrub or small tree that is native to New Zealand's South Island. It was first described in 1877 and is part of the heath family Ericaceae. Its specific epithet, acerosum, refers to the needle-like shape of its leaves. This species is found on mountain slopes, ridge lines, and hillsides, and can reach a height of 1-2 meters. A 2017 assessment using the New Zealand Threat Classification System determined that it is not currently threatened, with an estimated population of over 100,000 individuals.
