Impatiens balfourii, also known as Balfour's touch-me-not, Kashmir balsam, or poor man's orchid, is an annual herb belonging to the Balsaminaceae family. Its name comes from the explosive dehiscence of its fruits, which burst open at the slightest touch to scatter its seeds. The plant grows up to 120 centimetres in height and has oval to lance-shaped leaves and white and pink flowers. It is pollinated by insects and hummingbirds and its fruits can launch seeds up to 6 metres away. Native to the Himalayas, it has become a popular garden plant in Europe and the United States, but is considered invasive in some areas. It thrives in cool and moist environments at altitudes of 100-600 metres.

Sow seeds at 20°C, expecting germination within 3 months without further temperature treatment.
Sow seeds immediately as their viability decreases rapidly, or they best germinate when fresh. If stored, seeds might need temperature cycling and patience to germinate.
