Actinidia rufa is a climbing shrub that belongs to the Chinese gooseberry family and is native to Taiwan, some South Korean islands, the Ryukyu Islands, and parts of Japan. It is typically found in mountain forests at elevations between 1,000 to 2,000 meters. This plant is being studied for its potential use as a crop wild relative of kiwifruit, as it shows resistance to frost and bacterial canker, a disease that affects kiwifruit.
