Viburnum sargentii is a deciduous shrub native to north eastern Asia that grows to 3 meters tall and wide. It has 3-lobed, maple-like leaves that turn red in autumn and produces flat white flower-heads in early summer. The outer florets are saucer-shaped and sterile, while the central tubular flowers are fertile. In autumn, the flowers are followed by globose red berries. The specific epithet sargentii commemorates the American botanist Charles Sprague Sargent. The cultivar 'Onondaga' has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit for its red central flowers.
