Dillenia alata, also known as red beech, golden guinea flower or golden guinea tree, is a medium-sized tree found in tropical forests of the Moluccas, New Guinea, and northern Australia. It has glossy dark green leaves, large yellow flowers with pinkish-red stamens, and red dehiscent capsules containing black seeds. The species was originally named Wormia alata and later transferred to the genus Dillenia. It is named after the German botanist Johann Jacob Dillenius and its species epithet, alata, means "winged" in Latin, referring to its winged petioles. This tree is native to the Maluku Islands, New Guinea, and parts of Australia, and is usually found in rainforests but can also grow in other forest types. It is an important host for the Queensland moth Pollanisus commoni and its fruits are eaten by the Eclectus parrot. D. alata is not considered threatened and is often cultivated for its ornamental features.
