Staphylea pinnata, also known as the European bladdernut, is a deciduous shrub native to Europe and naturalized in Britain. It can grow up to 6 meters tall and has pinnate leaves. Fragrant white flowers bloom from May to June and are pollinated by flies. The plant produces edible seeds that have a taste similar to pistachios. It can be grown in a variety of soils and is hardy in zones 6-8, but has low drought tolerance. Images of Staphylea pinnata can be found on Wikimedia Commons.
