Tradescantia pallida, also known as purple secretia, purple-heart, or purple queen, is a species of evergreen perennial plant native to the Gulf Coast region of eastern Mexico. It is similar to other spiderwort plants such as T. fluminensis and T. zebrina. The cultivar T. pallida 'Purpurea' has purple leaves and pink flowers and is commonly used as an ornamental plant in gardens and borders, as a ground cover, or as a houseplant. It is easy to propagate through cuttings and has been found to be effective at improving indoor air quality by filtering out pollutants. This cultivar has also received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. The Latin specific epithet pallida means "pale" and the plant is known for its elongated, pointed leaves and small, three-petaled flowers.
