Aneilema aequinoctiale, also known as clinging aneilema, is a flowering shrub found in sub-Saharan Africa. It can grow up to two meters tall and has pale green leaves covered in fine hairs. The flowers are bright yellow and bloom from September to June. This plant is commonly used for medicinal, culinary, and domestic purposes in various African countries. It is also known to be used by chimpanzees to self-medicate and expel parasitic worms from their bodies. The mechanism behind this behavior is believed to be the rough surfaces of the leaves, which help physically extract the worms from the intestines.
