Pterocelastrus echinatus, also known as winged holly or white cherrywood, is a small tree found in Southern Africa. It grows in various habitats, including forests, rocky hillsides, and kloofs, at elevations between 600 and 2400 m. The tree has grey bark, glossy dark green leaves, and fragrant white flowers. Its fruit is a woody capsule with wing-like protuberances and is often used by Bantu tribes for attaching spear heads. The wood of this tree is pink to red in color and has been traditionally used for wagon-building and furniture making. Pterocelastrus echinatus is also a host to several moth species. It was first described by N. E. Brown in 1906.
