Rumex sanguineus, also known as wood dock or bloody dock, is a perennial flowering plant found in Europe. It has lance-shaped leaves at the base of the plant and produces red flowers in the summer. It can be distinguished from similar species by its slender and erect growth. This plant is commonly found in damp and shady areas, and is sometimes considered a weed in agricultural fields. While it is edible, it contains oxalic acid and should not be consumed in large quantities. The leaves are often used in salads and contain high levels of vitamin C and carotene. However, other related species are typically preferred for culinary use. To promote leaf growth and prevent spreading, the flowers are often removed.
