Eriogonum nidularium, also known as birdnest buckwheat, is a common and abundant annual herb found in the sandy flats and dry washes of the Mojave Desert and Great Basin in the western United States. Its distinctive rounded form, resembling a bird nest, rarely grows taller than 30 centimeters and has mostly naked curving twigs with small leaves at the base. The plant produces small yellowish to pinkish flowers with streaks of bright red, which hang in fan-shaped clusters along the thin branches of the stem.
