Eriogonum abertianum, also known as Abert's buckwheat or Abert wild buckwheat, is a type of buckwheat plant in the Polygonaceae family. It is native to Northern Mexico and the Southwestern United States, specifically in Coahuila, Chihuahua, Sonora, San Luis Potosí, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. This annual herb can grow up to 1-3 feet in height and width and is typically found in the Chihuahuan and Sonoran Deserts. Its leaves are greenish, tawny, or reddish in color and its flowers, which bloom year-round, are white, pink, or yellow. Eriogonum abertianum is an important food source for adult Crescent Metalmark butterflies and is also beneficial for native bees.
