Nepenthes attenboroughii, also known as Attenborough's pitcher plant, is a carnivorous plant named after the famous naturalist Sir David Attenborough. It is a montane species found in the Philippines, specifically on the summit of Mount Victoria. The plant is characterized by its large and distinctive bell-shaped pitchers and narrow, upright lid. In 2010, it was recognized as one of the top 10 new species described in 2009 and in 2012, it was listed as one of the world's 100 most threatened species. The plant was discovered in 2007 during a research expedition and was formally described in 2009. It produces some of the largest pitchers in the genus, with the largest recorded pitcher measuring over 1.5 liters in volume. The plant is endemic to the Victoria Massif in Palawan and is found in scattered populations on rocky, ultramafic soil. It is considered critically endangered due to its restricted distribution and the threat of poaching. The pitchers of N. attenboroughii are open to the elements and often contain a mixture of fluid and prey, including mosquito larvae. While there have been reports of the plant capturing and killing rodents, this is likely due to misad
