Colobanthus quitensis, also known as the Antarctic pearlwort, is a small flowering plant that is native to the Antarctic region. It has a distinctive cushion-like growth habit and yellow flowers, and is found on the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, as well as in other areas such as the Andes and Mexico. Due to climate change, there has been a significant increase in the number of these plants, with reports indicating a fivefold increase in seedlings and plants. Research has also shown that the Antarctic pearlwort is spreading at a much faster rate than in previous years. It is one of only two native flowering plants in the Antarctic, the other being Deschampsia antarctica (Antarctic hairgrass).
