It is an epiphyte, growing on trees in the Atlantic Forest.
Schlumbergera lutea is a species of flowering plant native to southeast Brazil. It is an epiphyte with shrubby growth and flattened stems, and bright yellow flowers. It was first described in 1935 as Rhipsalis epiphylloides, and transferred to the genus Hatiora in 1983. On the basis of a molecular phylogenetic study in 2011, the species was transferred to the genus Schlumbergera, with the replacement name Schlumbergera lutea. It is found in the Atlantic Forest, growing on trees around Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
