Rhipsalis baccifera, also known as the mistletoe cactus, is a type of cactus that is native to Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Florida. It is also found in parts of Africa and Sri Lanka. This cactus is unique because it is the only species of cactus that is naturally found outside of the Americas. There are two theories about how it spread to other parts of the world - either through migratory birds or through European ships trading between South America and Africa. This cactus has many subspecies and has been subject to confusion and disagreement in its taxonomy, but was clarified by scientists in 1995.
