Halothamnus hierochunticus is a plant species that belongs to the subfamily Salsoloideae in the family Amaranthaceae. It is found in Southwest Asia and is sometimes considered a weed. The plant grows up to 40-50 cm tall with blueish-green branches and has a distinct unpleasant smell. Its leaves are linear to linear-triangular and its flowers are small with triangular tepals. The fruit is winged and varies in size and weight depending on its position on the plant. This species was first described in 1912 and has been included in the genus Halothamnus. It is also known by several synonyms and has a Hebrew vernacular name. Halothamnus hierochunticus is found in Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq, and parts of Iran. It grows in fields and on ruderal places, often on saline soils.
