Arthrocaulon macrostachyum, also known as Arthrocnemum macrostachyum, is a flowering plant in the amaranth family that is native to coastal areas of the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, and parts of the Middle East. It grows in various habitats with saline soils, such as salt marshes and alkali flats. This plant has small scale-like leaves, produces tiny flowers in terminal spikes, and has a single-seeded fruit. Research has shown that A. macrostachyum is salt-tolerant and can grow in a wide range of salt concentrations. It has also been found to play a role in the remediation of oil-contaminated soil and can tolerate high levels of cadmium, making it a potential candidate for phytoremediation. Additionally, the seeds of A. macrostachyum contain a high percentage of oil and are being studied as a possible source of edible oil.
