Achyranthes arborescens, also known as the Chaff tree or Soft-wood, is a critically endangered plant species found only on Norfolk Island. It is a soft-wooded tree that can reach up to 9 meters in height and has elliptic to slightly oblanceolate leaves with appressed hairs. The inflorescence is a spike with 20-90 white or pale yellow flowers, enclosed by pink bracts. It prefers growing near streams and in damp forests. This plant was first described in 1810 and is facing threats from cattle grazing, seed predation, and competition from introduced weeds and vines. It has been declared critically endangered under the Australian government's Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.
