Conophytum calculus is a small succulent plant native to South Africa and belongs to the Aizoaceae family. Its name comes from its round, pebble-like appearance and firm flesh. It produces yellow or orange flowers with a clove-like scent in the autumn. The plant is long-lived and slowly offsets, forming clumps. There are two subspecies, one with round grey-green heads and the other with smaller, paler flowers and a more variable color. Conophytum calculus is found in the "Knersvlakte" region of South Africa, known for its white quartz pebble-fields. It is popular in cultivation but requires specific conditions such as bright light, well-drained soil, and specific watering patterns. The plant can be propagated through cuttings, subdivision of clumps, or by seed.
