Phaulothamnus is a genus of plants that was previously classified in the Phytolaccaceae family but is now considered part of the Achatocarpaceae family. It is a small genus with only one recognized species, Phaulothamnus spinescens, which is found in various regions of Texas and Mexico. This species is a branching shrub that can reach up to 250 cm in height and is characterized by its spiny branches and juicy berries. It is also known by several common names, including devilqueen, snake-eyes, and putia. The leaves of this plant are wider than they are long and the flowers are either solitary or in clusters. The fruits are spherical and have a thin, white to greenish skin that reveals black seeds inside.
