The wild orange, scientifically known as Capparis mitchellii, is a native Australian plant found in dry inland areas. Despite its name, it is not related to oranges or the North American "wild orange," but rather to capers. It has been used as a food source by Aboriginal Australians for centuries and is a good source of vitamin C. The plant can grow up to eight meters tall and has large white or cream flowers. It is found in open savannahs and is tolerant of different soil types. The fruit, which is round and green when unripe, is edible and can be eaten raw or used in various dishes. However, it is often infested by pests and is a preferred food of the spotted bowerbird.
