Supertribe Hesperodae in Subfamily Brassicoideae
What is a Supertribe (pl. Supertribes)?
In botanical taxonomy, a supertribe is an optional rank used to group closely related tribes within a subfamily. In the hierarchy, supertribe sits below subfamily and above tribe.
Supertribes can help organize very large or complex subfamilies into intermediate groupings that reflect shared morphological or genetic characteristics. While not employed in all modern systems, the rank is sometimes used in particular families or treatments where it improves clarity.
When recognized, supertribes are subdivided into tribes, then subtribes, genera, and species, reflecting increasingly specific evolutionary relationships.
