Peltaria alliacea, also known as garlic cress, is a perennial plant found in Southeastern Europe. It has simple, hairless leaves that give off a garlic scent when crushed. The plant produces white flowers from May to July and has a chromosome number of 2n=14. It was first described in 1762 and can be found in stony areas from Southern Austria to South Romania and Albania. It has also been naturalized in the U.K. In addition to its natural habitat, it is also grown as a herb or vegetable and its leaves can be used to add spiciness to salads, although they may become bitter in the summer.
