Paysonia lyrata, also known as lyreleaf bladderpod, is a rare flowering plant found in Alabama, USA. It is listed as a threatened species and is only known to exist in three locations in the state. This annual herb grows up to 30 centimeters tall and has hairy leaves, with bright yellow flowers. The plant is typically found in open cedar glades and other open habitats, such as pastures, with red-colored and limestone-derived soils. These habitats are now endangered and only exist as remnants within degraded areas. The plant is adapted to disturbed habitats and can also be found in artificially disturbed areas such as roadsides and pastures. Unfortunately, there are only a few populations of this plant remaining, and they are struggling to survive due to habitat degradation. Only one population is thriving, thanks to appropriate management.
