Lepidium campestre, commonly known as field pepperwort, is a biennial or annual plant in the Brassicaceae family native to Europe, but commonly found in North America as an invasive weed. It is characterized by a raceme of small white flowers and later green, flat and oval seedpods. The stem is covered in sessile, alternate and arrow-shaped leaves. Field pepperweed is edible and can be eaten as greens, added raw to salads or boiled, and the young fruits and seeds can be used as a spice. It is being targeted for domestication at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences due to its high agronomic promise as a biennial/perennial oilseed crop, and it can yield correspondingly 3.3 tons/ha in Umeå, Sweden.
