Cardamine micranthera, also known as small-anthered bittercress or streambank bittercress, is a rare flowering plant in the mustard family. It is found in the Piedmont region near the border of Virginia and North Carolina, particularly in the Dan River watershed. Due to habitat disturbance and destruction, the plant has been in decline since the 1960s and was feared to be extinct in the 1970s. However, it was rediscovered in the 1980s and is now known to have at least 20 populations with a total of 20,000 individuals. This plant is a perennial herb with small white flowers and round anthers, and can be distinguished from its relative, Cardamine rotundifolia. It grows in moist, shady areas near streams and in woodlands, but its habitat has been impacted by human activities such as land conversion, herbicide drift, and invasive species. Flooding and logging have also been listed as threats to this endangered species.
