Cardamine diphylla, also known as broadleaf toothwort, is a spring woodland plant native to North America. It is a member of the mustard family and is characterized by its four-petal flowers and toothed stem leaves. This plant is found in most of eastern North America, from Georgia to Ontario and from the Atlantic to Wisconsin. It grows up to 30 cm tall and blooms from April to June in moist woodlands. The West Virginia white butterfly lays its eggs on this plant and the larvae feed on it. Native American tribes, such as the Algonquin, Cherokee, and Iroquois, have used this plant for medicinal and culinary purposes. They use it to treat fevers, heart disease, headaches, and other ailments. It is also used as a condiment in various dishes.
