Cakile edentula, also known as the American searocket, is a flowering plant native to North America. It is commonly found on the beaches and dunes of the East coast of the United States and can also be found in wetland environments. However, it is considered an invasive species in other parts of the world. This plant grows on well-drained, sandy soil and is typically found midway up beaches to avoid being destroyed by waves and tides. It has an annual life cycle in colder climates and a biennial life cycle in warmer climates. Cakile edentula has thick, succulent leaves and produces small, dry fruit at the end of each growing season. The flowers of this plant are radially symmetrical and can be pink, red, blue, purple, or white. The leaves of Cakile edentula are edible when cooked, but should not be eaten in large quantities.
