Cordia sebestena is a shrubby tree that belongs to the borage family and is native to the American tropics. It can be found in southern Florida, the Bahamas, Central America, and the Greater Antilles. This tree has various common names, such as siricote, kopté, scarlet cordia, and Geiger tree. It can grow up to 8-9 meters tall and has a round or vase-shaped crown. The leaves are dark green, leathery, and covered in small hairs. The tree produces clusters of red-orange flowers throughout the year, followed by pear-shaped fruits. Cordia sebestena is often planted as an ornamental tree in gardens due to its showy flowers. It is a slow-growing plant that requires some upkeep, but is not prone to pests and diseases. This tree can tolerate drought and salt spray, but not frost. It is commonly used as a street tree, shade tree, and even in containers.
