Lobelia tupa is a species of evergreen perennial plant native to central Chile. It can grow up to 4 m tall and is well-suited for dry soils. The plant has grey-green foliage and produces red, tubular flowers in a sympodium pattern. It has been used for various purposes by different cultures, such as being smoked as a narcotic and used as an abortifacient. Interestingly, it has also been used to treat nicotine addiction due to its nicotine-related alkaloid content. The Mapuche people of Southern Chile consider it a sacred plant and it has been found to have respiratory stimulant properties.
