Campanula isophylla, also known as Italian bellflower, star of Bethlehem, falling stars, and trailing campanula, is a trailing perennial plant with heart-shaped, toothed, light green leaves. Its star-shaped flowers, which come in shades of blue, white, or mauve, bloom in late summer to autumn. The species is typically 6 to 8 inches tall and 12 inches wide, with green stems that cascade down the sides of pots. It has been grown for generations and is often mistaken for Campanula fragilis or Campanula mollis. This plant is best suited for hanging baskets and thrives in airy temperate conditions, but is harmed by direct sunlight. It is only able to tolerate frost in the mountains of northern Italy. Campanula isophylla has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit for its lovely blue flowers that last a long time.
